Alarum Theatre and Tell Tale Present have teamed up to bring you Rewriting Richard: for one night only, September 20th at The Other Place at the RSC in Stratford.

Tickets are £13/£6.50 and you can buy online from the RSC box office

Join us to take a sideways look at history. Two companies and two shows – different views of the man behind this intriguing King. In Now is the Winter Bess gossips her way through the story in the castle kitchen. Above stairs some years later a young Henry VIII quizes his mother about Uncle Richard. When it comes to Richard III no two tellings of the tale ever seem to be the same…

In Now is the Winter devoted servant Bess  gossips her way through the story from her viewpoint in the kitchen. Bess might be fictitious but she is ‘thoroughly Shakespearean’ (The Stage). A retelling that turns the Tudor view on its head – using Shakespeare’s own text.

… a skilled reworking of Richard III from a woman’s perspective… this is RSC level work… deserves to be seen by anyone with a love of Shakespeare, or simply a love of beautiful language and a good story, delivered with consumate ease and skill.  (**** Fringe Review)

A new and striking reworking of Richard III ‘played with warm, realistic humour by Helen McGregor…thoroughly Shakespearean in spirit’ (The Stage)

Commissioned by Leicester Guildhall and Leicester City for the reinterment of Richard in March 2015, Uncle Richard looks back from 1502 with a young Henry VIII. It makes no reference to Shakespeare’s work but looks back instead to primary and historical sources. A light hearted look by award winning playwright ES Cooper using innovative immersive techniques.

“Don’t miss out on a Plantaganet Masterclass!” (Ludlow Fringe)

“Offers fresh perspectives…” (Ricardian Bulletin, Richard III Society)

“Fast and Furious… I loved it.  *****” (Skiddle audience reviews)
